My dearest daughter
I am using this blog to put into paper, stories of my family. I would begin with some of my stories then interview close family members and get some stories from them. I would also ask people about stories they could remember about our family, the Filipino half of your heritage.
I would start with how I met your father. Just some sentences to start off as it is getting late and I just wanted to be able to post something this day.
We met in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I had migrated to Canada in February of 1997. We met April 23, 1999.
How do I remember the exact date?
Because it was the day after my birthday and the first meeting of Vancouver By Night, a "class" offered by the West End Community Center. I had signed up for this class (there was a fee- cannot remember how much it was- something between $45-$60, I think) as a way to meet people as well as maybe, get to experience some night life in Vancouver.
You see, four months after I got to Vancouver, I started working as a Blackjack Dealer for Great Canadian Casino. It was shift work and I got the second shift, working from 6 or 7 pm till 2 am. At one time, my first summer there, I was even working 2 full-time jobs, one that starts at 6 am and ends at 3 pm (more on this at some other post) and the casino job. For a couple of years, I did not have much of a social life.
I was not much of a bar person so instead I would sign up for classes that interest me, like salsa dancing, drawing, writing and... Vancouver By Night.
Jack Bergstrom had signed up for that same class.
